Abalone Abalones are members of a large class (Gastropoda) of molluscs having one-piece shells. They belong to the family Haliotidae and the genus Haliotis, which means sea ear, referring to the flattened shape of the shell. Abalone shells are rounded or oval with a large dome towards one end. The shell has a row of respiratory pores. Nine species of abalone occur in North America: black (H. cracherodii), flat (H. walallensis), green (H. fulgens), pink (H. corrugata), pinto (H. kamtschatkana), red (H. rufescens), threaded (H. assimilis), Western Atlantic (H. pourtalesii), and white (H. sorenseni) abalone. Aegerine This beautiful tabular crystal came from Zomba, Malawi in Africa. It has a beautiful smoky gemmy clarity. Amazonite The name is taken from that of the Amazon River, from which certain green stones were formerly obtained, but it is doubtful whether green feldspar occurs in the Amazon area. Amazonite is a mineral of limited occurrence. Formerly it was obtained almost exclusively from the area of Miyask in the IImen Mountains, 50 miles southwest of Chehabinsk, Russia, where it occurs in granitic rocks. More recently, high-quality crystals have been obtained from Pike's Peak, Colorado, where it is found associated with smoky quartz, orthoclase, and albite, in a coarse granite, or pegmatite. Some other localities in the United States yield amazonite, and it is also found in Pegmatite in Madagascar. Andalusite Andalusite is a common metamorphic mineral which forms under high pressure and/or temperature. The minerals kyanite and sillimanite are polymorphs of andalusite, each occurring under different temperature-pressure regimes and are therefore rarely found together in the same rock. Because of this the three minerals are a useful tool to help identify the pressure-temperature paths of the host rock in which they are found. Bixbite (Red Beryl) Bixbite (also known as red beryl, red emerald, or scarlet emerald) is a red variety of beryl, Be3(Al,Mn)2Si6O18. It is very rare, only known to occur in a few locations in the western United States and one in Mexico. Bixbite was named after Maynard Bixby. Bixbite occurs in topaz-bearing rhyolites. It formed by crystallizing under low pressure and high temperature from a pneumatolitic phase along fractures or within miarolitic cavities and rhyolitic magmas near the surface. Minerals it is found with include bixbyite, quartz, orthoclase, topaz, spessartine garnet, pseudobrookite and hematite. The red color is thought to be from manganese substituting for aluminium in the beryl structure. Gem-quality bixbite is very rare, and the largest faceted gemstones are less than three carats (600 mg) in size. Bixbite, is used by intuitives and mystics to bring harmony to relationships and enhance compatibility. It is also used to strengthen creativity energy.
Bloodstone Bloodstone, green jasper dotted with bright red spots of iron oxide, was treasured in ancient times and long served as the birthstone for March. Calcite The carbonate mineral calcite is a calcium carbonate corresponding to the formula CaCO3 and is one of the most widely distributed minerals on the Earth's surface. It is a common constituent of sedimentary rocks, limestone in particular. It is also the primary mineral in metamorphic marble. It also occurs as a vein mineral in deposits from hot springs, and also occurs in caverns as stalactites and stalagmites. Calcite is often the primary constituent of the shells of marine organisms (e.g. plankton, bivalves, etc.). Calcite represents the stable form of calcium carbonate; aragonite will change to calcite at 470°C. Calcite increases and amplifies energy. Calcite is a protecting, purifying, grounding and centering stone, and can help bring inner peace. It also increases creativity, imagination, and prosperity.

Catlinite Catlinite (also Pipestone) is a type of red, metamorphosed mudstone (argillite) rock occurring in a matrix of Sioux quartzite. The stone is quarried by Native Americans for use as sacred pipes called calumets (Fr: "hollow reed"). The quarries are found and preserved in the Pipestone National Monument outside of Pipestone, Minnesota, in Minnehaha County, South Dakota, and at the Pipestone River in Manitoba, Canada. Catlinite has the quality of connecting the spiritual and the physical. It can be used to ground prayer and ritual into the physical, everyday life. It is also a very protective stone. Catlinite is also used for communication with spirits and the ancestors.
Cavansite Cavansite is a deep blue hydrous calcium vanadium phyllosilicate mineral with formula: Ca(VO)Si4O10ܪ(H2O). It forms vitreous to pearly translucent orthorhombic crystals which may be acicular in radiating clusters. It has a Mohs hardness of 3 - 4 and a specific gravity of 2.33. Cavansite occurs as a secondary mineral in basaltic rocks along with a variety of zeolite minerals. Occurances include Poona, India; Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; North Island, New Zealand; and Columbia and Malheur County, Oregon, USA. It was discovered in 1967 in Malheur Co., Oregon and named for its calcium vanadium silicate composition Cavansite is a stone that aids in many psychic areas. It can stimulate intuition greatly, heightens psychic awareness, stimulates the third eye, and enhances channeling abilities.
Celestite Celestite (SrSO4) is a mineral consisting of strontium sulfate. The mineral is also known as celestine and is named for its occasional delicate blue color. Celestite occurs as crystals, and also in compact massive and fibrous forms. It is mostly found in sedimentary rocks, often associated with the minerals gypsum, anhydrite, and halite. It is a trigonal mineral, forming 6-sided crystals that are terminated by rhombohedrons. Dioptase is a rare mineral found mostly in desert regions were it forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zone of copper sulfide mineral deposits. However, the process of its formation is not simple, the oxidation of copper sulfides should be insufficient to crystallize dioptase as silica is normally minutely soluble in water except at highly alkaline pH. The oxidation of sulfides will generate highly acidic fluids rich in sulfuric acid that should suppress silica solubility. However, in dry climates and with enough time, especially in areas of a mineral deposit where acids are buffered by carbonate, minute quantities of silica may react with dissolved copper forming dioptase and chrysocolla. Jasper, Exotica (aka Sci Fi Jasper) Exotica Jasper, also called Sci Fi Jasper or Science Fiction Jasper, feels to me like a cool milkshake on a hot day, it's so soothing. It is currently mined in Brazil, USA, Canada, CIS, Mexico and Sweden. Kunzite is pink-violet spodumene, named after G.F. Kunz, who first described this gem in 1902. It has a hardness of 6 to 7, and perfect cleavage which makes it a difficult gem to cut. It has been found in Afghanistan, the USA, Brazil, Burma and Malagasy Republic. Kyanite Kyanite, whose name derives from the Greek, kyanos, meaning blue, is a typically blue silicate mineral, commonly found in aluminium-rich metamorphic pegmatites and/or sedimentary rock. Kyanite is a diagnostic mineral of the Blueschist Facies of metamorphic rocks. Kyanite is a member of the aluminosilicate series, which includes the polymorph andalusite and the polymorph sillimanite. Kyanite is strongly anisotropic, in that its hardness varies depending on its crystallographic direction. While this is a feature of almost all minerals, in kyanite this anisotropism can be considered an identifying characteristic. It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system, and most often forms botryoidal, fibrous, or stalagmitic masses. Malachite often results from weathering of copper ores and is often found together with azurite (Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2), goethite, and calcite. Except for the iridescent green colour, the properties of malachite are very similar to those of azurite and aggregates of the two minerals together are frequently found, although malachite is more common than azurite. Its bottle glass color led to its being commonly called Boute-illenstein, and at one time it was regarded as an artificial product, but this view is opposed to the fact that no remains of glassworks are found in the neighborhood of its occurrence, moreover pieces of the substance are widely distributed in Tertiary and early Pleistocene deposits in Bohemia and Moravia. Moldavite is a translucent green meteoric gem, found only in what is now the Czech Republic. It is classed with the mysterious group of glassy objects called tektites, and it is believed to have fallen from the sky only once, about 14.8 million years ago. Prized by humans for tools and amulets some 25,000 years ago. Moldavites are rare stones. Moldavites are among the most powerful gemstone tools for spiritual development and expansion of consciousness. They seem to engender an acceleration of one's inner growth and evolution. Hundreds of times people have described to us the rapid transformation of their lives which has come soon after they acquired Moldavite. Mother of Pearl Nacre, also known as mother of pearl or sadaf, is a naturally occuring organic-inorganic composite. It is formed of layers of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) platelets (crystals), in the form of aragonite and conchiolin (a scleroprotein), separated by elastic biopolymers (such as chitin and lustrin). This mixture of hard and elastic domains makes the material strong and resilient. Strength and resilience is also likely to be due to the offset or "brickwork" arrangement of the platelets, which inhibits transverse crack propagation. Mother of Pearl gets its name from the fact that it is the iridescent lining of shell, where pearls can grow. Mother of Pearl has both traditional and New Age metaphysical and healing lore. Muscovite Muscovite, also known as potash mica, is a phyllosilicate mineral of aluminium and potassium with formula: KAl2(AlSi3O10)(F,OH)2. It has a highly perfect basal cleavage yielding remarkably thin laminae (sheets), which are often highly elastic. Muscovite has a Mohs hardness of 2 - 2.25 and a specific gravity of 2.76 - 3. It can be colorless or tinted through grays, browns, greens, yellows, or rarely violet or red, and can be transparent or translucent. The green chromium rich variety is called Fuchsite. Muscovite is a type of mica that comes in pinks, browns, clear and yellows. It is a stone of angelic contact, and can bring awareness of the higher self. Mystically it is used in scrying and can contact the highest spiritual planes, as well as assist with astral travel. Muscovite is also good for lessening insecurities, self-doubt, and brings self-confidence and optimism. Novaculite Novaculite is a form of chert or flint found in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas and Oklahoma and in the Marathon Uplift of Texas. Novaculite is considered to be geosynclinal highly siliceous sediments and may be a product of the low-grade metamorphism of chert beds. Novaculite is known as the "Cord Cutting Crystal." It is used psychically to cut psychic or etheric cords. It can also be helpful for "cutting through" problems, getting past problems, and finding solutions. Obsidian, Black Obsidian is a type of naturally occurring glass, produced from volcanoes when a fluid felsic lava cools rapidly and freezes without sufficient time for crystal growth, for example by flowing into a body of water. It consists mainly of SiO2 (silicon dioxide), 70% or more. Obsidian is mineral-like, but not a true mineral because it is not crystalline. Its composition is very similar to that of granite and rhyolite. It is sometimes classified as a mineraloid. The color of obsidian varies depending on the presence of impurities. Iron and magnesium typically give the obsidian a dark green to brown to black color. The inclusion of small, white, radially clustered crystals of cristobalite in the black glass produce a blotchy or snowflake pattern (snowflake obsidian). It may contain patterns of gas bubbles remaining from the lava flow, aligned along layers created as the molten rock was flowing before being cooled. These bubbles can produce interesting effects such as a golden (sheen obsidian) or rainbow sheen (rainbow obsidian). Small nuggets of obsidian that have been naturally rounded and smoothed by wind and water are called "Apache tears." Obsidian is relatively soft with a typical hardness of 5 to 5.5. Its specific gravity is approximately 2.6. Obsidian is a very protective stone, and is excellent for removing negativity. It is also excellent protection against psychic attacks. In particular obsidian protects the gentle from abuse. It is a very grounding stone, and very healing. Physically it benefits the stomach, intestines, muscle tissue, and can rid one of bacterial or viral infections. It sharpens and focuses internal and external vision, and helps get in touch with buried issues before they explode. Obsidian is related to the root chakra.
Obsidian, Snowflake Snowflake obsidian has the property of bringing things to the surface. The things brought to the surface could be positive or negative, love, anger, secrets; but with snowflake obsidian, these things are brought to the surface more gently that they might be otherwise. Snowflake obsidian can provide balance during times of change. It aids in seeing patterns in life and recreating them in a more beneficial way. Ocean Jasper Ocean Jasper is very soothing and helps to love one's self as well as others. It is very healing of the emotions and brings peace of mind. It also helps with grounding and controlling or eliminating excess or unwanted energies. It has been used for wound healing, childbirth and to increase stamina and self-control. Black onyx and red onyx are associated with the base (root, first) chakra. White onyx is associated with linking the base and crown chakras to have balanced energy throughout the chakra system.
Opal The mineraloid opal is amorphous SiO2·nH2O; hydrated silicon dioxide, the water content sometimes being as high as 20%. Opal ranges from colorless through white, milky blue, gray, red, yellow, green, brown and black. Often many of these colors can be seen at once, caused by interference and diffraction of light passing through minute, regularly arranged apertures within the microstructure of opal, known as Bragg's lattice. These apertures are filled with secondary silica and form thin lamellae inside the opal during solidification. The term opalescence is commonly and erroneously used to describe this unique and beautiful phenomenon, which is correctly termed play of color. Contrarily, opalescence is correctly applied to the milky, turbid appearance of common or potch opal. Potch does not show a play of color. Serpentine Serpentine is a group of common rock-forming hydrous magnesium iron phyllosilicate ((Mg, Fe)3Si2O5(OH)4) minerals; it is also often rich in other metal ores, including chromium, manganese, cobalt and nickel. In mineralogy, serpentine may refer to any of 20 minerals belonging to the serpentine group. Owing to admixture, these minerals are not always easy to individualize, and distinctions are not usually made. There are three important aggregate structures of serpentine: antigorite, chrysotile and lizardite. Serpentine is said to owe its name either to its serpent-like colours and patterns or from an old belief that the stones were effective protection from snake bites. In good quality Unakite is considered a semiprecious stone, will take a good polish and is often used in Jewelry and other Lapidary work such as Eggs, Spheres, and Carvings. It is also referred to as epidotized granite.

Unakite can be found in the beach rock on the shores of Lake Superior. It is the state stone of Virginia, where it is found in the river valleys after having been washed down from the Blue Ridge Mountains.
